A popular North Jersey restaurateur who broke into the industry as a dishwasher is expanding his pasta and sandwich shop – this time with a twist.
“Mike’s Pasta and Sandwich Shoppe” by Michael Carrino in Nutley will transform into Mike’s Pasta Shoppe for its next Park Avenue location in East Rutherford, BoozyBurbs reports. The exact opening date was not known.
Carrino is known for both its modern French and American cuisine. He commands the kitchens of a country club and previously belonged to Pig & Prince in Montclair.
“A graduate of the famed Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, Carrino embarked on what is now a quarter-century journey beginning as a dishwasher/porter and honing his craft in every corner of the kitchen by working towards the executive chef and owner,” the restaurant’s website reads.
“Carrino worked vigilantly in hotel kitchens in New Jersey, New York and Virginia, expanding his knowledge of cooking, baking, pastry and butchery. During his tenure, he helped build and maintain the four- and five-diamond restaurant status for the likes of Benchmark Hospitality International and the Hilton Corporation before going on his own.”
