Casserole season is officially, undeniably here – and with it comes all sorts of soft, creamy and cheesy baked dishes that taste delicious and make your home smell amazing. The only downside is that all that sassy, cheesy goodness can turn into a crusty, cruddy mess that’s a major pain to clean up.
Your best defense is a powerful attack: soak this dish in soapy water as soon as you can and scrub away all the food before it really sticks. But, of course, this is not always possible. Sometimes you use this casserole to serve dinner or store leftovers, for example. Other times it’s Thanksgiving and you’re tired. And that’s OK.
How to Clean Your Casserole with Bar Keepers Friend
Rinse your casserole dish with water, then lightly dust the bottom of the dish with Bar Keepers Friend powder. Leave to stand for 30 seconds, then rub the dish with a damp sponge and rinse. Wash and repeat if necessary.
This process may take a little elbow grease, but after scrubbing with a sponge for a few minutes, every piece of Creamy Baked Chicken and Mushroom Soup came loose. Even the really the burnt parts have disappeared.
PS: If you don’t have Bar Keepers Friend on hand, our second method takes a little longer, but it’s worth a try. Sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the casserole, then add a few pumps of dish soap. Fill the pot with hot water and let it sit for 15 minutes. Use a spatula to scrape off food scraps. Repeat as needed.
