Now that it’s November, soon thousands of Montananese will gather across the state to count their blessings and celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends. People have different traditions, some get together and play board games, or maybe a touch football game.
Of course, the highlight of the day is a meal that is traditionally surrounded by a turkey and all the trimmings. So what’s the most popular Thanksgiving dish in Montana?
Well, I can tell you the most sought after dish is, and it’s not something I like too much. According to Food52, the most searched dish in Montana is… Green Bean Casserole.
Oh and here’s something to ponder, it seems Montana is the only state in the US where green bean casserole is the most sought after dish. Mashed potatoes are hugely popular, as are sweet potatoes, pecan pie, and jelly.
So why is green bean casserole so important in Montana?
I have no idea, but I know for some people this is an absolute must for Thanksgiving, and of course there are different ways to do it, however, it seems they all have a few things in common . Green beans, some kind of cream soup base and those fried onions on top.
As I said above, I have never been a fan. Green bean casserole has been a Wolf family tradition at Thanksgiving for as long as I can remember and I’ve always passed it on.
However, last year my colleague took on the challenge of coming up with a green bean casserole that I would really like, and to my surprise, mission accomplished. I don’t know what was in it, but I know it was full of bacon and it seemed to do the trick.
