Sassy baker Janelle, 27, and her partner Monzir, 26, say they have what it takes to claim the league title on the return of Australia’s favorite cooking show MKR.
With strong teamwork and a winning menu that draws on their Turkish/Cypriot and Sudanese heritage, winning the competition would be the icing on the cake for this beloved couple.
A helping hand on the barbecue, Monzir loves flavorful spice rubs and cooking over coals with its two special ingredients: chili and peanut butter.
Nicknamed by friends the “Kardashian of Cakes”Janelle runs a successful cake decorating business, has an eye for detail and takes pride in presentation.
This perfect pairing should bring sweetness and spice to the MKR table, but when judge Manu Feildel asks who’s boss of the kitchen, the pair have very different opinions.
“Oh me,” said Janelle with a confident, almost smug smile; before Monzir brazenly corrected her by saying:
“In the kitchen, not in life!”
What will happen when the queen of the cake meets the queen of the kitchen, judge Nigella Lawson? Janelle feels the pressure,
“Everyone expects me to make great cakes. I’m going to share my chocolate mud cake with Nigella,” she says. “What if no one likes it and I’m delirious?”
It’s not just the chocolate mud cake that’s on Janelle’s mind, who admits the couple have yet to announce their relationship with their family,
“We didn’t tell our families we were dating until we came to MKR,” Janelle confesses. “We just decided to go on TV and announce it to everyone!”
Join Nigella Lawson and Manu Feildel as they travel the country to discover Australia’s top chefs.
MKR is produced by ITV Studios Australia for the Seven Network.
